• About Us

    The National Artisan Portal is an initiative of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, which is the nodal agency of the Ministry of Textiles for the welfare of Indian artisans/crafts persons. There are 7 million craft persons who are the backbone of Indian Handicraft Industry possessing inherent skill, technique, traditional craftsmanship is quite sufficient for primary platform. However in changing world market, these craftsmen need an industrial support, at their places i.e craft pockets for value addition and for the edge with other competitors like China, Korea, Thailand etc. It is a one-stop- platform for all government programmes and services for artisans across the country. Going beyond being just a medium for one-way communication, the portal also lets artisans and other stakeholders to interact with government, give feedback, and lodge grievances if any.

    The objective behind the Portal is to provide a single window access to the information and services being provided by the Indian Government for the artisans. An attempt has been made through thisPortal to provide comprehensive, accurate, reliable and one stop source of information about all government programmes and services for artisans. The current Portal is a metadata driven site that links to the other Indian Government Portals/websites for most updated information.
